With this expansion, the original Catan experience becomes larger, deeper, more challenging, and significantly longer. It adds even more excitement, strategic depth, complexity, and tactical gameplay for experienced players.

The thriving island of Catan becomes the target of invading barbarians, and the knights must rise to defend it.

This expansion gives the base game an entirely new dimension, making it ideal for experienced Catan players ready to embrace its many challenges.

Experience the rise of Catan! Cities flourish and grow into magnificent metropolises. Prosperous trade brings wealth to the island, but that same wealth attracts barbarians. Savage hordes begin threatening the land. Who will defend the cities as the invaders approach?

The Knights of Catan gather to fight the barbarians together. Woe to the cities if the knights are defeated!

This expansion introduces many new gameplay elements. Cities can be upgraded into metropolises using “Commodity” cards, while city walls provide additional protection. If all knights unite, the barbarians can be defeated, but some players may choose to pursue selfish ambitions instead of helping the common cause. The player contributing the fewest knights risks severe consequences — if the barbarians prevail, their city will be sacked and reduced back to a small settlement.

If you are an experienced Catan player aged twelve or older, this expansion offers a whole new level of gameplay with diverse new mechanics and more advanced rules. Once you experience it, you may never want to play the base game without it again. Be prepared to set aside enough time, however, as games will almost certainly last well over two hours.
