Above it, a curious black cat with upright and alert ears watches you with inquisitive green eyes. Below the clock is the cat's tail, hanging down and swinging like the pendulum of a clock. In the centre of the clock face is the inscription 'le petit café de chat noir' or 'the little café of the black cat'.
