RETURN TO THE BEGINNING The original Culdcept was released in 1997. While much of the gaming world was busy trying to navigate new, futuristic terms like “polygon graphics” or “full-motion video,” Culdcept had a completely different focus. Dice and cards! Over the years, several entries in the series appeared, but that very first game never made it outside Japan’s borders. With the enhanced port Culdcept The First, we return to the beginning!

ROLL THE DICE Culdcept The First plays like a mix between a board game and a card game. You use a die (or two dice with certain spells) to move around the game board. The spaces you land on can be claimed by summoning a creature to defend them. Spaces come in four different colors that represent terrain types, which in turn match the creatures you can summon. You can also upgrade these spaces, granting additional advantages.
